Lois J. Sharkey, 86, passed away suddenly on December 10, 2016 in Hood River, Oregon. She was born March 2, 1930 in Gillette, Wyoming to Leo and Mary (Tarver) Sharkey.
After graduation from the University of Oregon, she started her teaching career at Oak Grove School. She taught with military schools in Spain, England, Japan, Puerto Rico and Panama. She also taught in Gold Beach, Oregon.
She returned to Hood River in 1977 and operated a quilting store “Country Cloth” for 10 years. She continued her love for quilting after selling the store.
She loved to raise flowers and to garden. She enjoyed taking care of her own yard well into her 80’s.
She was an avid reader who loved to visit the Hood River Library. She enjoyed cruising to Panama, Hawaii, and Alaska.
She is survived by her companion Bill Sweeney; siblings Marjorie Andrews of Hood River, OR; Allan Sharkey of Bend, OR; John Sharkey (Jeri) of Rio Rancho, NM; Lora Dickinson of Eugene OR; and Sally Goff of Live Oak, FL.
She was mutually adored by many nieces and nephews.
Services for Lois will be planned at a later date.
