I knew "Coach" Mallon as football coach for the Heppner HIgh Mustangs.  Thanks to "Coach" Mallon, I will never forget "Bud" Wilkinson's book on Oklahoma Split "T" football.  But most of all I will remember Coach for the wonderful trips he arranged for the team to see college football games; i.e., 1958 to Corvallis to see Joe Kapp and the Univ of Cal v. Oregon State; 1959 to Portland to see (?) @ The Multnomah Stadium. They were wonderful outings.  I especially remember eating at Dan & Louis Oyster Bar!  

He also took the Track & Field team to a HS meet @ Hayward Field in 1960.  I remember I was running the 880 and Coach Mallon yelled encouagement from the stands.  Thinking it was my brother Lance, then a student @ the UO, I almost came to a complete stop!  Needless to say, I learned not to look at the spectators during a race.
