I met Gene more that 15 years ago as an official in Oregon Swimming. Gene always kept you on your toes and took a small meet as seriously as he did a big meet. He wanted all the kids to have a fair chance. Most of us volunteer because our kids are participating and so we do it for the duration of their time in the sport but Gene exemplifies a true volunteer. He didn't do it for personal gain but for the love of helping others. He will be missed.
