My association and friendship with Gene originated from officiating with swimming, but as I got to know Gene over the last 20 years, I realized I had gained a friend who had a natural talent to be able to see and believe in the best in everyone. Gene once asked me what I would like people to say about me when I was gone, and I now extend the same accolade to him - "we will miss him".
