Her shop was always my first stop when I visited Hood River and if Bette wasn't at the shop Gay could update me on how her mom was doing. We were communicating until about two years ago when she was not responding to my letters. Best wishes to you kiddos. You were all she ever wrote about.

My first "real" job was working at the Safeway lunch counter for Bette. It was a great experience and provided a work ethic that has benefited me in all of my work endeavors.
