Condolence: Dear Walters Family, I just returned from Europe to hear the news. Both of your parents were always wonderful to me. Weren't we lucky to grow up in Hood River with such caring people like Bette and Jerry. The guard is now changing. It's up to us to carry on their legacy. Wishing you comfort and courage.

Condolence: Bette and I started first grade together and remained friends. Her shop was always my first stop when I visited Hood River and if Bette wasn't at the shop Gay could update me on how her mom was doing. We were communicating until about two years ago when she was not responding to my letters. Best wishes to you kiddos. You were all she ever wrote about.

Condolence: To Bette's family, So very sorry for your loss, she was an amazing woman. My first "real" job was working at the Safeway lunch counter for Bette. It was a great experience and provided a work ethic that has benefited me in all of my work endeavors. She will be missed by many .
