The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Verva Harris can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

Bubba -- The "all-in" Grandmother

The glass was never half full or half empty with Bubba.  The glass was always full – full of life.  When days were busier than usual, we frequently borrowed Bubba’s oft-used phrase:  isn’t there a lot to do.  Even well into her nineties, Bubba cleaned out her gutters, pulled weeds in the garden, and feverishly painted glassware to sell in the gift shop.  Bubba was always “all in,” especially as our grandmother.  When we were with Bubba, her eyes, ears, heart were always on us.  We were her world when we were with her.  Bubba sat at the kitchen table and taught us how to make clothes for our dolls.  She bought  paints, brushes and canvas and set up an easel next to Lemon Dam and taught me stroke by stroke how to paint.  She opened up her closet and let us dress up in long formal gowns and funny hats.  Her kitchen was open for science experiments and baking lessons.  She sat on the floor with us and helped us create driftwood critters and mud sculptures.  She took us on long hikes and let us collect rocks, sticks and flowers.  She taught us history, horticulture, astronomy, genealogy, photography, fashion design, financial planning and geography.  Bubba also taught us the importance of people, of making connections with neighbors, of taking care of each other.   Bubba greeted everyone with a smile and a kind word.  She never forgot a birthday or one’s favorite recipe.  Bubba taught us the importance of working hard and of taking time to sit on the back porch with family to drink a cup of coffee and watch the sun set.  Bubba’s hugs were the essence of unconditional love, and I will miss her terribly.  I love you Bubba.
