The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Verva Harris can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

The lighting of a Memorial Candle not only provides a gesture of sympathy and support to the immediate family during their time of need but also provides the gift of extending the Book of Memories for future generations.

Always a mother-son team until the end

It was a sad Friday afternoon in the middle of winter, 1974 or 1975,  when  I got a phone call from Karen at the Fredericksburg Hospital letting me know that Jimmy Harris had not rallied from his most recent heart attack (he'd had several in recent years).  Dayle was in Dayton flying a trip  for Eastern and couldn't make it back  for a couple of days.   I sure didn't want Bubba  to be alone under these circumstances.  The weather was miserable, but I drove to Marble Falls and stayed with her until  the next day.  When Carroll arrived he'd already met with the Lodge  and had gotten the ball rolling for a Masonic funeral service. (The Masons had always been an important part of Jimmy's life.)   Always a pillar of strength, Bubba, handled  everything gracefully and with finesse.  How I admired that women--she was amazing!

My 12-hour shift in the  ER started at noon the next day (Saturday)---since it was too late to find someone to take my shift I missed the funeral.
