Growing Pains

One Sunday many years ago at St. Mary's ccd, I met a great friend... Little did I know how much this person would affect my life. Mike always cared about the well being of his classmates. Even before we became great friends, Mike was always protective of others feelings. When a bully would come pick on me, Mike would come to my rescue. He was fearless, you could never put a label on Mike. You could never count him out on his size because he always had the biggest heart. My first day at May street, Mike was the only kid that invited me to seat with him. And for an awkward big kid like me that made me glow. Mike was a General, he wore head to toe in camo and boy did he look sharp! I have great memories going down to GI Joes in Portland and getting my fatigues... Everyday that year we would salute each other and play army. Mike taught me with out ever knowing how to respect and honor our Country and it's veterans. Mike was also a great teammate . One year we were on the worst baseball team in the league, but had the best time! All thanks to mike being able to show me how to play with laughter, he would tell me to have fun and that this isn't game 7 of the world series.. Relax he would tell me... In middle school I watched mike dominate the field in wrestling. I'll never forget your infamous "head and arm" move. You could land that move on anyone no matter how big or strong the opponent. In the class room you would tell me I was smart not just a jock.. I sure do appreciate all the help on algebra and chemisty.. You had very busy work loads but always took time to help one of your pals! Whenever you would leave for a trip you always came back the same mike ! You never looked down at anyone or acted big headed. You showed me south park and I miss watching you and Max carrying on with your finger puppets.. That one Halloween at your house was the best ever. Egg beaters for life!! There is so much I will miss about my dear bro Mike. Most of all I will miss his laughter and sense of humor! Mike loved to laugh and enjoyed sharing classic rock and movies that johnny would show him. I'll always cherish those times! Mike till we meet again my friend, someone posted this on your timeline, "fair winds and following seas " I love you bro thanks for being my friend! To the Durkan family . I love you all and my time at your house was easily one of all the best places to grow up!!!
