What I valued in my friendship with Kate was her absolute optimism. We would spend time grousing about the difficulty in maintaining a just and meaningful society both environmentally and socially and then she would get up and do something about it. Kate never seemed to stand still for very long, and she continues to resonate in my memories. A good person doing good things for her community leaving a wonderful legacy for all of us.
