Every time I worked at a swim meet (of which there were many in the 14 years that my daughter swam at BEND/CAT/MHA/TTSC), Gene always greeted me saying..."I've got the best head timer in Oregon to work with today" and I always said..."I've got the best referee in Oregon to work with today." Such fond memories I have being on deck with him...what a kind and gracious man!
