Nellie is a Special Person

Nellie Hjaltalin is a special person. Nellie was intelligent, hard working, kind and considerate to everyone, funny and was inspirational to be around. We worked together at Meier & Frank and with challenges that sometimes seemed impossible to overcome Nellie always offered insight and a "can do" attitude that energized all of us. Nellie and her staff were the nucleus of the team that re-constructed a full day's sales from Washington Square that were lost during a peak sales day in December. Plus, she made it look easy.

Nellie made time for everyone. Every day (but especially on inclement weather days) Nellie checked with all of her associates to insure they had transportation home. Nellie hosted wonderful picnics at her home in Hood River. My kids remember climbing the trees, running in the fields and all the good food. Nellie made everyone feel at home and truly enjoy themselves.

Nellie served in the Navy and we all thank her for her service. She assisted friends, neighbors and co-workers whenever there was a need.

Nellie could also be intense and focused with the task at hand. .  . so one morning in late summer I arrived at the office to hear Nellie say "and every one of these will be dealt with by the end of the day - no ifs, ands or buts". Wow! That was intense and focused. Thought I better head over to Nellie's department and see if something was happening that I needed to know about. So I walk into the department and everyone seems OK. I greet Nellie and inquire about the comments I heard and Nellie replied she had all these zucchini squash from her garden and that everyone must take at least one home at the end of the day. Needless to say I left that night with one rather large zucchini squash!

Nellie, you really are one of the good ones. We love you and miss you very much.
