A Ranger in Yosemite

I am grieving. When the obituary and Thelma’s note arrived in the mail it brought unexpected tears to my eyes after all these years. Doug Warnock was my first boss in the National Park Service. I have come to realize how fortunate I was beginning my career with him. I worked under Doug when he was district ranger at Big Oak Flat in Yosemite and later in Yosemite Valley (1966-1968). I think it is appropriate that the last time I saw him was at Camp Curry in Yosemite Valley a few years ago when Pam and I ran into Doug and Thelma by pure chance. I never had a better boss or better friend. He was a great mentor and I learned so much from him in a short amount of time. In tribute to the memory of Doug, I borrowed the photo of him on horseback in the mountains of Yosemite from his Facebook page, and made it the header on my own Facebook page. God bless all of you in the Warnock family, and may the hole in your hearts mend as much as it is possible to do so.
