Obituary for Gregory Michael Herman
Gregory Michael Herman was born on March 9, 1950 in Ross, California and died in Hood River, Oregon on November 18, 2014. Greg was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Patricia Herman. Greg is survived by three sisters: Kathie Harris (Herb) in Seattle, Washington, Chris Herman (Arnold) in Ukiah, California and Sandy Wild (Dick) in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
Greg and his former wife, Rose Lincoln, had three children; Lorin Herman, Erin Herman and Mariah Herman, who all live in Seattle, Washington. He also had nephews, nieces, other relatives and many, many friends.
Greg graduated from Sequoia High School in Redwood City, California in 1968 and attended the College of San Mateo. He spent the largest part of his career in the beer and wine industry as a sales manager and then became a realtor, an innkeeper, professional baker and professional cook. Most recently, he worked at the Columbia Gorge Community College in Hood River.
Greg loved his children, allowed and encouraged them to think for themselves and watched with pride as they grew to become smart, successful young adults. He was a playful dad, coached their team sports, wrestled on the living room floor and never stopped cracking jokes.
He loved fly fishing on the Deschutes with his son Lorin, playing folk music on his guitar and harmonica and riding his lime green Kawasaki motorcycle, cruising Hood River. He was an expert in the kitchen and recently created a line of Bubba Sherman's Hot Sauces. He volunteered at Riverside Church for many years, participated in the Hood River Lions Club, Habitat for Humanity and Big Brothers and Big Sisters as a Big Brother to Manny.
Greg was always ready with a smile and warm heart. He enjoyed books about social justice, played Scrabble with many, was proficient at speaking Spanish, and played music with anyone who would listen. He had a passion for mountain bike riding up Post Canyon and Syncline. Greg had a passion for making every day count and we miss him greatly.
A Celebration of his life will be held at Riverside Church on December 13, 2014 at 4:00 pm. Desserts and coffee will follow at the church. Please come with your stories, smiles and your warm hearts. Also, please consider making a donation to the Gregory Herman Memorial Music Fund to inspire our community youth to music. Checks may be mailed to the Hood River County Education Foundation, 1009 Eugene St., Hood River, OR. 97031.
