The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Verva Harris can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

My Special Mother-In-Law

"I am heading to the barn", is one of many slangs Bubba taught me. For the Chinese culture I grew up with, living with your parent-in-law is a common thing. But Bubba told me the first day we moved in together: "I really appreciate you letting me stay with you".

She always appreciated the beauty in everything, from the color of the sky to the different types of flowers, and the outline of the mountains that surround our farm...and even the simple little things like bringing her a cup of tea.

She often asked how my family was doing in Taiwan. When my mom came to visit us, Bubba and her communicated in their respective language. Bubba spoke English ad my mother spoke Chinese, but at the end of the conversation they seemed to understand each other and laughed about it.

We worked together in our lavender farm for over 10 years. I do not consider her my mother-in-law but a  dear friend. She took care of the talking part of the business, and I checked customers out when they were ready to leave. We worked perfectly together and at the end of the day, "we all headed to the barn happily".

I know that I will see her again. Before that day comes, I am going to live "physically strong and emotionally compassionate", just as she had shown me through the 15 years that we had been together.

I miss you and love you Bubba.

Till we meet again,

KaiLai
