The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Carl Selin can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Condolence: Thank you Captain Selin for giving so many of us some of the best memories of our lives at the canoe basin and sailing center. The freedom, physical challenge, responsibility, and friendship you offered young kids and teenagers made us better people. I KNOW I speak for hundreds and hundreds of other campers.

Condolence: As a child, I spent a few glorious summers at Maine Wilderness Canoe Basin and truly believe that experience impacted who I became as an adult.

Just yesterday, I dropped my own son off at a camp similar to MWCB.

Thank you Mr. Selin for giving me the confidence to tackle life.

You and your family are in my thoughts.

Condolence: We will always treasure our times in the Keys watching Carl as he did his daily swim in the Ocean. I always thought that was so cool. He had eyes as blue as the ocean and a smile that made his eyes twinkle. I will cherish the clam bake down on the deck by the beach with Carl at the grill. He was a blessing to all the lives he touched. Love to you all.

Condolence: Some memories of dear Carl:

Carl's booming voice when he first came to live here in Hood River. I would hear him happily talking with friends and family on the phone while he sat in the sun on his porch. He was always so positive and truly interested in others and supportive. His voice was full of enthusiasm and energy and life. It was delightful to hear him.

He always acknowledged me as I walked or drove by….by saying Hi or waving his arm in greeting. He was truly a people person.

He always had a very good attitude about his own medical challenges and did what he could for as long as he could to keep moving……..biking and then 5pm walks around the block with dear Dana by his side. It was absolutely inspirational.

I am so sorry to hear of Carl's passing. He was much loved and fought a hard and long fight.

Dana, my heart goes out to you and your family. You must miss him terribly.
