Life Story for Thomas P "Tom" Shearer

Thomas Patrick Shearer was born on October 27, 1954 in Portland, Oregon to Dave and Loie Shearer. He joined his brothers David and Tim.

Tom grew up playing basketball. He worked throughout high school delivering dry cleaning around the Portland area. Tom graduated from Lincoln High School, and worked various jobs. At one point he was a cook at a restaurant in Idaho. This started his adventurous years which included a cross country hitchhiking trip. The trip paused in Bar Harbor, Maine for work. It was there that Tom met Pixie Beach, the woman who changed his life. Tom left Maine to experience more adventures in Alaska, but returned a few months later to claim his future wife. Pixie joined Tom in Oregon, telling her family it would only be for a year… that was 38 years ago.

Tom worked at Mt. Hood at Ski Bowl and then pursued a lifelong career as a timber faller. He loved working in the woods and would often bring home unusual or unique pieces of nature. One time he carried home a very small abandoned bunny in his lunch cooler. Tony the bunny is still hopping around the farm.
Tom and Pixie settled in Dee and raised 2 wonderful sons, Trevor Patrick and Ryan Edward. Tom loved spending time with his boys. Most family activities were outside, playing ball, riding bikes, hiking and swimming at Lost Lake. Tom and the boys would often fish together.

Tom became a farmer when he bought several cows for the boys’ 4-H projects. He enjoyed farming and learning about livestock, hay production and irrigation. Trevor and his fiancé Megan remain active with the cows and would stop by almost daily to help Tom with the farm chores.
Tom turned into a grandfather on April 1, 2018 when Sophie Adeline was born to Ryan and wife Micah. Tom was proud to be a “grandpa” to the first girl in the Shearer family in five generations.

Tom was a caring, hardworking man who loved his family and he will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife of 37 years Pixie; sons Trevor Patrick (fiancé Megan McKim) and Ryan Edward (wife Micah); granddaughter Sophie Adeline; brothers David (wife Anna) and Tim (wife Helen).

A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm Saturday October 13, 2018 at Anderson’s Tribute Center (1401
Belmont Ave Hood River, OR 97031). A time for visiting and sharing with Tom’s family will follow.
