Life Story for Ruben Patrick Krieger

Ruben Patrick Krieger died on Friday April 13th at Lauralhurst Village in Portland, Oregon after a long battle with kidney and liver disease. Ruben was born August 21, 1952 in Portland Oregon to Raymond Krieger and Verna Lowell Krieger. He spent his youth in the Portland area as one of eight children. By high school the family had moved to the Hood River Valley. The Valley was the place Ruben would always call home. He developed a love of hunting and fishing while here and began friendships that would last him a lifetime.

By 1977 Ruben was married. He had three children: daughter Natascha, a son Johnathan soon followed in 1980 and finally a son Jesse in 1981. Ruben was an active member of the PTA and involved in afterschool programs for his children while he went to night school to become a CPA. After completing school in Portland, Ruben moved his family back to The Hood River Valley. Here he found connection with the friends and valley he loved. Ruben was an avid member of the Hood River Lyon’s and looked forward to the 4th of July fireworks display each year. He spoke often of the year he and his son helped dig trenches and assist in the setup of the show. Ruben loved the front row seat his volunteerism offered…every boom and crack of the display would light his eyes up with joy and wonder.

Ruben would move back to Portland again in the 90’s to seek employment and find love. He became involved in the foreign student exchange program at his step children’s school. He enjoyed sharing his home and love of outdoors with children from all corners of the globe. Ruben would visit Hood River often to see his children and grandchildren, but never returned to live. As he got older, it became more difficult to find time and energy to go fishing or hunting. Ruben cherished a fishing trip a few years back where he spent the day on the bank with his brother Richard, telling stories, drinking beer and throwing a line out on the water.

Ruben delighted in family time and enjoyed any activity that brought him home; holidays, piano recitals, school programs and music events that starred his grandchildren. He would always carve out time to watch his boys.
Ruben was a devoted member of the Westwood Community Fellowship in Milwaukie, Or. In his time as a congregation member, he developed deep and lasting friendships with his fellow believers. When Ruben felt far from his family and home, his church family supported him. We are forever grateful for the love and compassion you gave our father.

Ruben is survived by his daughter Natascha Stolhand (Krieger), her spouse Jeremy Stolhand and their 2 children Morgan Stolhand and Stuart Stolhand of Hood River, OR; son Johnathan Krieger, his wife Wendy Krieger and their son Derek Krieger of Mill A, Washington ; son Jesse Krieger, his wife Tara Krieger and their 2 sons Aiden Krieger and Caelum Krieger; his brother Raymond Krieger and his wife Vicki Krieger of Rivergaro, Italy; brother Richard Krieger and his wife Sherry of Chillicothe Texas; sister Debbie Elliot and spouse Clifford of Odell, OR; sister Sharon Slaughter and her spouse Louis of The Dalles, OR; and sister Theresa Spratt and her spouse Bob of Gatesville, Texas.

The family would like to thank the staff of Lauralhurst Village for their kind and compassionate care of our father, brother and friend.

Services are planned for 1:00 p.m., April 28th, 2018 at the Hood River Church of the Nazarene (2168 Belmont Avenue, Hood River).

Arrangements are under the direction of Anderson's Tribute Center (Funerals • Receptions • Cremations) 1401 Belmont Avenue, Hood River, Oregon 97031.
