Obituary for Richard Kahler Sr.

Richard  Kahler Sr.
Richard Wayne Kahler, Sr., a long time Hood River Valley farmer and orchardist passed away peacefully at his home of 47 years on May 12, 2016.

Richard was born Sept. 14, 1934 in Brunswick, MO to Robert and Avanell (Gooch) Kahler. He moved to the Hood River Valley in 1942 and graduated from Wy’East High School in 1953. On June 4, 1955, he married Margaret Hausinger, his wife of 60 years. The Hood River Valley was his home for more than 70 years, where he raised his family and became a successful orchardist.

Richard enjoyed fishing and hunting, and loved the FFA – supporting this organization through attendance at its local auction. In addition, he enjoyed taking his grandchildren to the Hood River County Fair. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge of Hood River, reaching an honorable position.

He is survived by his wife Margaret; children Debbie Aylette (Earl), Richard Kahler, Jr., (Katherine). Richard also leaves behind his eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert Lee Kahler, sister Charlotte Ross, son Robert Kahler and grandson Brent Kahler.
Visitation is Friday, May 20, 2016 from 5 -7 p.m., at Anderson Tribute Center.

A graveside service is scheduled May 21, 2016 at 11 a.m., at the Idlewilde Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to MCMC Visiting Health Services or Providence Hospice of the Gorge.

The family wishes to thank MCMC Visiting Health Services and Providence Hospice of the Gorge for the fine care that Richard received.
He was honorable, trustworthy and giving – and will be greatly missed.
