Obituary for Richard Norman "Dick" Birkett

Richard Norman "Dick"  Birkett
Richard Norman Birkett passed away June 21, 2010 at his home in Hood River. He was born June 2, 1925 in Wyondotte, Michigan and was 85 years of age.

Richard served in the Air Force during World War II. After the war he went to college in Idaho. Upon completion of college he started Northwest Wreaking Company of Faragut, Idaho and helped dismantle the air base there.

Later he moved to Portland, Oregon opening up a real estate company there with a branch office in Hood River, Oregon. (E. E. Bowen) He moved to Hood River in the seventies and retired from real estate business in the early 1980’s.

For years he enjoyed raising and racing thoroughbred horses, traveling, fishing and maintaining the farm.

Richard is survived by his wife Myra, 4 children, 3 stepchildren and 7 grandchildren, one sister, Gwen, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roland and Edith and also one brother, Roland.

A private family gathering at their home will be held at a later date.
