Life Story for Ralph Claflin

Ralph  Claflin
Ralph Dewitt Claflin passed away August 27, 2017 at Columbia Basin Care Center of The Dalles, Oregon. Ralph was born December 6, 1927 and was 89 years of age at the time of his passing. He was a fifty plus year resident of Hood River, Oregon.

Ralph was born in Amiton, North Dakota to Oscar Dewitt and Hazel (Jeffers) Claflin. They later moved to Harrison, Idaho in the Coeur d’Alene area.

After serving in the marines from 1946-1948 he started his career working for several different phone companies in many different capacities. He retired from United Telephone / Sprint in 1992.

In 1953 Ralph married Lois Johnson who was a telephone operator. They were married 61 years until her death in 2014.

Ralph & Lois were involved in many different activities, from the Wy’East Whirlers, Lions Club and Eagles Club. The also enjoyed their family farm; raising animals and gardening. They also enjoyed traveling to see family and friends.

Ralph is survived by; four children, David Claflin, Norfolk, Virginia, Dixie Arrington of Parkdale, Oregon, Ken Claflin of Hood River, Oregon and Dayne Weatherill of Hood River, Oregon; brother, Roger Claflin of Kellogg, Idaho; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ralph was preceded in death by his wife, Lois; parents, Oscar & Hazel; daughter, Donna Bailey; and several brothers and sisters.

Services are planned for 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 1st at Idlewilde Cemetery (970 Tucker Road, Hood River, Oregon).
