Life Story for Norman Kye Stone

Norman Kye  Stone
Norm Kye Stone passed away February 25, 2014 at the Hood River Care Center after a two and a half year battle with cancer. He was born August 27, 1946 to Donald Kye and Lavelle (Worthington) Stone in Oregon City, Oregon.
Norman lived at Roads End on the Oregon coast until he was seven when he moved to Hood River. He graduated from Wy’east High School in 1964 and attended OIT before moving to Portland to work as a machinist.
He married Jean Stifel April 17 ,1966 and remained married for over 47 years. Two daughters joined the family, Jeanice and Barbara. In 1974 the family returned to Hood River to farm Jean’s family farm until the time of his death.
He served in the Oregon National Guard from 1966 to 1976. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially his trips to Alaska to fish for King Salmon and hunt moose. In 1968 they bought a vacation home at Paulina Lake where he enjoyed snowmobiling and grooming trails for the snowmobiles He also enjoyed horseback riding and packing. He was a skilled automotive body and paint repairman and restored many cars during his lifetime. He received his private pilot’s license in 1975 and was certified single engine land and amphibious. During his lifetime he belonged to the Cub Scouts, Odell Lions, Oregon State Snowmobile Association, Oregon Flying Farmers, Odell Fire Department, Ft Vancouver Antique Equipment Association, Gorge Goodtimers Snowmobile Club, Hood River Elks, Hood River American Legion.
He is survived by his wife Jean, daughters Jeanice Stone and husband Mike Olness, and Barbara Smith and husband Dave Smith, all of Hood River;two grandchildren Ellie and Aidan Smith, also of Hood River;one sister Margie Stone of Portland, OR and one niece Katie Pyle of Puyallup, WA.
Services are planned for 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 3rd, 2014 at Anderson's Tribute Center (Funerals • Receptions • Cremations) 1401 Belmont Avenue, Hood River, Oregon 97031. Pastor Christy Matson will officiate.
