Obituary for Norma E. Copeland

Norma E. Copeland, a Hood River, Oregon resident, died September 15, 2008 at the Oregon Veteran’s Home in The Dalles, Oregon.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. at Willamette National Cemetery.

Norma was born July 2, 1919 in Ness City, Kansas to John and Fannie (Chalfan) Neeley. As a young child she moved to Kentwood, Louisiana and lived there until age 10. She then moved to California where she continued her education and attended college. Prior to college, she and Franklin J. Trammell were married. Six weeks after their marriage, Norma’s husband was shipped out to the Philippines and shortly after was declared missing in action. In 1943 Norma enlisted in the US Army and was stationed at Camp Hood Texas. In 1944 Norma was notified that her husband who had been missing in action had been found. Norma was discharged along with her husband in 1945. She and Frank had one son together. In 1969 Frank passed away. Norma continued her work with the Department of Welfare. In 1971 she and John Copeland were married in Honolulu, Hawaii. They moved to Hood River in 1989. Norma enjoyed fishing, reading, crafts and sewing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and three sisters.

Norma is survived by her son James “Jim” Trammell and his wife Cheryll of Hood River, Oregon and two grandchildren Autumn and Joshua Trammell.
