Life Story for Loyd Crown

Loyd Crown passed away surrounded by family on September 11, 2018 at his home in Hood River, Oregon. Loyd was born on May 13, 1939 and was 79 years of age at the time of his passing.

Loyd was born to Nellie Rindels and Paul Crown in Charles Mix County, South Dakota. Loyd was a great story teller and we have heard the many stories of how Loyd and his brother Andy have built up almost everything here in Hood River Valley. He worked most of his career in Hood River as a General Contractor, then worked for the Port of Hood River as a Toll Collector on the Bridge. In his spare time, he loved to play cards, gardening, and canning food. Loyd loved listening to good ‘ol country music and man could he dance.

He married Carol Johnson in February 1973. They loved to take their daughters Kim and Debbie on vacation with them. Together, the two of them loved to entertain and could often be found BBQing, surrounded by amazing friends and food. After Carol passed, Loyd started traveling with his buddies, fishing in Alaska, going to the NASCAR experience, to Vegas, just to name a few. He also loved his daily routine of heading out to 1301 to spend part of the day with his friends.

Loyd was preceded in death by his loving wife Carol (Johnson) Crown in 1994; his daughter Debbie Crown in 2012; all of his siblings, brothers John, Bert, Bobby, Curtis, Andy, and sister Lois; and grandson Jason Loyd. He leaves behind his daughter Kim Juhnke; granddaughter Cassi Knight her husband Chris and their kiddos Jonathan, Joshua, Shelby, Izabella, and Lea; and also many great friends that he considered family.

The family would like to share a special thank you to Heart of Hospice for assisting them during Loyd’s final days.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 2:00pm Sunday October 7, 2018 at Idlewilde Cemetery (980 Tucker Road Hood River, OR 97031). A reception with a video tribute will follow at 3:00pm at Thirteen O One Steak and Spirits (1301 Belmont Ave Hood River, OR 97031).
