Life Story for Laura Louise Young

Laura L. Young, 86, passed away Saturday, May 27, 2017 at the Hood River Care Center in Hood River, Oregon. Laura was born July 17, 1930 in Emmett, Idaho to James and Erna (Puschmann) Abercrombie. She attended Hood River High School and married C.B. (Larry) Young in 1947. They resided in Hood River, Oregon during their 62 years of marriage.

Laura worked for a short time at her husband's real estate office, Young Realty. She liked to read, crochet, sew and work in her flower gardens. Although she couldn't swim or ride a bike, her horse riding skills were outstanding. She and Larry belonged to the Hood River Saddle Club and she spent many hours in the arena barrel racing and riding mountain trails on her Tennessee Walkers. She and Larry belonged to the Wy'east Whirlers Square Dance club and they traveled to Portland and around the state with square dance friends.

When dancing and riding horses were too hard on her knees, she transferred that energy into crafts and baking. She tried many new recipes and would spend hours looking at recipe books to find something yummy to bring to family gatherings. Her pies were a family favorite and she often froze pies to give away to any who would raid her freezer. She and Larry traveled by camper, trailer, motor home and cruise lines to destinations domestic or foreign, often taking their children and grandchildren with them.

Laura was preceded in death by her infant son Carrington, her husband Larry, her sister Jean and her parents Jim and Erna.

Laura is survived by her daughters Carrie Weathers of Hood River, Barb (Kirk) Stein of Hood River and Mary (Steve) Stiles of Milwaukie, OR; granddaughters Darcie (Rich) Ahrendt of Troutdale, OR, Jeannette (Mike) Whalen of Milwaukie, OR and Aimee (Jared) Ault of Gladstone, OR; great grandchildren Payton Ahrendt, Brycen and MacKenzie Stiles, Zoey Whalen and Charlotte Ault.

A graveside service for Laura is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 2 at Idlewilde Cemetery (980 Tucker Road Hood River, Oregon 97031) officiated by family friend Bob Huskey. There will be a reception following the service at 3:00 p.m. at Anderson's Tribute Center.

Donations may be made in Laura's name to Providence Hospice of the Gorge (1630 Woods Court Hood River, Oregon 97031).

Arrangements under the direction of Anderson's Tribute Center (Funerals • Receptions • Cremations) 1401 Belmont Avenue, Hood River, Oregon 97031. Visit www.AndersonsTributeCenter.com to leave a note of condolence for the family.
