John Thomas ( JT ) Short passed away on September 4th, 2012. JT was born on May 5, 1922 in Okemah, Oklahoma to John Thomas and Bessie Mildred (Barbour) Short , he was the 5th of eight children born to the couple.

JT and his family moved a lot when he was young. His family followed the work of cutting timber where it was available, usually building a sawmill at each site. JT and his brothers worked along with their dad logging and in the sawmill.

At the age of about 19, JT met the love of his life Sadie Ruth Chandler. They were married on August 23, 1942 in Greenville, Texas. They had not been married long when World War II interrupted their lives. JT spent 3 ½ years in the South Pacific as an Army Engineer. When JT returned most of his family had moved to Oregon. He and Sadie first moved to the Roseburg area, next to the Hood River Valley, then to Brookings where JT retired. JT and Sadie came back to Hood River after traveling for a few years. They enjoyed more than 60 wonderful years together. Sadie passed away in 2005, JT lost the love of his life and he missed her every day of his remaining life!

JT and Sadie were blessed with their only child, John Roger Short. After Roger started school, Sadie put her foot down and said" no more moving" until Roger graduated. Roger was the pride and joy of his parents. Roger passed away unexpectedly New Year's Eve; 2011.This was a hard blow to JT. He had lost the two most important people in his life.

JT loved to fish and later in life golf. He went to Alaska and other places to fish. Before his health started to decline, you could see him at Indian Creek Golf Course hitting a ball.

JT was preceded in death by his wife Sadie, his son Roger, his parents John and Bessie, his brothers, Curtis, Durwood, Troy, Benson and Clayton, his two sisters, Sybil Mitchell and Mildred Goss.
