Life Story for John Arthur Brey

John Arthur  Brey
John Arthur Brey, age 93 of Reedsburg passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at the Reedsburg Area Medical Center.

He was born on June 30, 1920 in Plain, Wisconsin the son of Arthur and Anastasia (Brickl) Brey. He was married to Mildred Bindl on October 23, 1946 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Reedsburg. There was never a challenge he couldn’t overcome because of his strong reliance on his faith. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, Catholic Knights and Catholic Order of Foresters. He enjoyed working the land and loved his farm, the time he spent fishing and at the tree farm in Wautoma. He was also employed for 26 years at Seats Inc. in Reedsburg and never missed a day at work. He enjoyed playing Sheepshead and Euchre. He enjoyed the time he volunteered at St. Vincent DePaul and RAMC. He loved his church and was active as a Eucharistic Minister, Usher and Money Counter. He was an avid Beaver, Badger, Brewer and Packer Fan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred on December 30, 1994, his parents, Father and Mother-in-law, Albert and Adelia Bindl, brother, Herman; sister, Anastasia, brothers and sister-in-law, Clarence Womack, Julius Riek, and Lucille Brey, niece, Lois Bindl.

He is survived by his children: Bernetta (Heinz) Mueller of Hood River, Oregon, John Leo (Kimberly Beale-Brey) of Milwaukee, Frank (Judy) Brey of Reedsburg, Monica (Bill) Ritzer of Reedsburg, Teresa Brey of Hood River, Oregon, Paul (Melissa) Brey of Reedsburg, Calvin (Lu Ann) Brey of Reedsburg, Peter Brey (Special Friend Neale Orinick) of Denver, Maria Doering (Special Friend Saul Hyzer) of Minneapolis; Grandchildren: Heinz (Cristina) Mueller, Karl (Nicole) Mueller, Eric (Mallory) Brey, Lucas (Christine) Brey, Megan Brey, Matt (Katie) Ritzer, Jared Ritzer, Mike Ritzer, Melanie (Eric) Baumgart, Ben (Nicky) Oetzman, Caleb Brey, Jonathan Brey, Anastasia Brey, Joseph (Allison) Brey, Nicholas Brey, Nathan Brey, Ava Doering; Great Grandchildren: Marcos Mueller, Hayden Mueller, Baby Boy Mueller on the way, Hixton Brey, Owen Brey; Step Grandsons: Nathaniel and Zachery Beale; Sister: Marion Riek of Spring Green; Brother and Sister-in-law: Ralph and Evie Bindl of Reedsburg; Special Friend: Evie Richert of Reedsburg; Special family: Laurie Brey of Reedsburg; Brent Doering of Minneapolis; Numerous nieces, nephews along with other relatives and friends.

We will celebrate his life with a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, February 24, 2014 at 11:30 A.M. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Reedsburg with Fr. Thomas Monaghan officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4-8 P.M. at the Farber Funeral Home with Knights of Columbus rosary being prayed at 8:00 P.M., Visitation will be held at the church on Monday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Reedsburg.

Memorials of remembrance may be made to Sacred Heart School Endowment Fund or to Sacred Heart Church.
