Douglas L. Waters “Doug” of The Dalles, Oregon passed away May 14th, 2017 at his home surrounded by family. Doug was born August 30, 1951 and was 65 years of age at the time of his passing. A time to celebrate Doug's life and mourn his passing is planned for 1:30 p.m., Saturday, June 10th, 2017 at The Dalles Civic Auditorium (323 East 4th Street, The Dalles, Oregon). Life Story for Douglas "Doug" L. Waters

Douglas “Doug” L. Waters, age 65, of The Dalles, Oregon passed away on May 14, 2017 peacefully at his home surrounded by his family.

Doug was born in Moscow, Idaho to John M. and Patricia A. (Schultz) Waters on August 30, 1951. He grew up in Spokane, Washington where he graduated from Ferris High School in 1969.

Doug graduated from Spokane Falls Community College in 1971. In 1978 he moved to Billings, Montana where he worked as an Assistant Manager for Wendy’s restaurant. In 1981 Doug hired on with Skippers’ Seafood N’ Chowder House where his love of restaurant management began. In 1990, he moved to The Dalles, Oregon to manage the Skippers’ restaurant. There he met Dorothy, and in September of 1995 they were married. In 2007, they purchased the Skippers’ in The Dalles, and over the next several years, they owned and operated 8 restaurants throughout Oregon and Washington. Doug was involved in the local community and was an active member of The Dalles Chamber of Commerce. He also supported fundraisers for local schools and charities.

Growing up, Doug loved boating and fishing at the family cabin on the Spokane River. His love for the water continued into his adult life. He spent much of his time boating and fishing on Lake Chelan, the Wenatchee River and the Columbia River. He loved woodworking, a good movie, working on cars and storytelling. He enjoyed traveling with Dorothy in their RV and meeting up with family and friends.

Doug is survived by his wife, Dorothy, who resides in The Dalles, OR; His children Chris Waters of Dufer, OR and Jenny Cheatham (Monty) of Gail, TX; Four grandchildren; Kerish and Mercedes Waters of Dufer, OR; Lexi Monette of San Angelo, TX; and Brooklyn Cheatham of Gail, TX; brothers Mike Waters (Cheryl) of Olympia, WA and Steve Waters (Becky) of Mead, WA; Nephews Shawn, Jeff (Sasha) and Matt Waters; and nieces: Stephanie Brown and Megan Waters.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, John in March 2003 and Patricia in April 2002.
A memorial service will be held at The Dalles Civic Auditorium (323 East 4th Street, The Dalles, Oregon) on Saturday, June 10th, 2017 at 1:30 p.m., followed by a celebration of life beginning at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Doug Waters Memorial Fund at https://www.youcaring.com/dorothywaters-832322
