Obituary for Dorothy Ellen Baker

Dorothy Ellen Baker
Dorothy Ellen (Bryan) Baker, passed away April 1, 2012 at the Hood River Care Center.

She was born September 10, 1917 in Pomona, Missouri to Claude and Margueritte (Peer) Bryan. She was the second child, but the first daughter of 13 children. She grew up in Missouri where she met the love of her life, James F. Baker. They were married on her 18th birthday in 1935. They moved in with her husband's parents to help with the dairy farm in Willow Springs, Missouri. That is where their three daughters were born. Her father-in-law had a new "Modern" home built for her with electricity and indoor plumbing but that was not enough to keep her from moving out West. They sold their share of the farm and moved to Oregon.

She was the epitome of a hard worker; she packed fruit for many years for AGA at Van Horn Packing Shed and later for Wells and Sons. Dorothy was an active member of Valley Christian Church; where she enjoyed the fellowship at the Ladies Quilting Group, served as the chairperson for the Deaconess Group and taught Sunday School.

Dorothy is survived and will be dearly missed by her daughters, Ivone Delepine and husband, John of Hood River, Oregon and Betty Reese and husband, David of Seaside, Oregon; siblings, Tom Bryan, Dolly Campbell, Wanda Little, Jack Bryan, Jake Bryan, Judy Johnson and Cheri Reese; nine grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James F. Baker, daughter, Bernice Nisley and six siblings; Jerald, Bill, Klair Emma, Juanita, Mary and Johnny.

Services are planned for 10 a.m., Saturday, April 7th, 2012 at Anderson’s Tribute Center. A reception will follow and then graveside rites at Pine Grove Butte Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Anderson’s Tribute Center (Funerals • Receptions • Cremations) 1401 Belmont Avenue, Hood River, Oregon 97031. Please visit our website to leave a note of condolence for family www.AndersonsTributeCenter.com.
