Condolences

Condolence From: Thomas and Faith Keolker
Condolence: Bonnie and family, it grieves us greatly that we will not be there with you tonight to celebrate Don's life. We all owe him (and let's not forget that behind every great man is a great woman!) so much - personally and as a community. Don was a rare human being - he gained strength from giving, even when he felt at his most down, and he took delight in the little things that many of us take for granted or simply don't even notice. He loved to tease in a gentle way - he admitted recently (with a guilty twinkle in his eyes) that he would sometimes tweak my toes when I was reclining peacefully in a nearby chemo chair! Like many, I didn't know Don nearly as well as I should have done or would have liked to - and that will be a constant regret. He will continue to be an inspiration to many, which is how it should be for such a great man. My mantra for Don will always be (and I know many share this sentiment) - "I want to be like Don when I grow up". God bless.

Condolence: Even if I didn't know Don was such a great guy, I"d have guessed it because he made a very good woman happy for so many years.

God Bless Bonnie and Lea Ann, and God speed, Don

Condolence: I only just met Don a few years ago while he was so sick, but the amazing thing was that you couldn't really notice. He always had a smile on his face, came to meetings & provided his wisdom, always had a joke ready, remembered details about people's lives which showed how much he cared, & donated so much of his time & money to Hood River. He was not only a Big of Big Brothers Big Sisters, but it many ways he was a Big to us all. I will greatly miss him! I send my condolences to his family & friends.

Condolence: I knew Don "Doc" Benton when I was in the Navy and stationed in Japan from 1982 to 1984. He was our local medical professional. He was a little older and looking back, believe he not only filled a role of caregiver, but as a "big brother" to so many young, sometimes a little stupid, sailors. I always remember him smiling and laughing and being very easy to talk to.
Over the years I heard about the amazing things he did after the Navy. It came as no surprise.
He will be missed but there is great comfort in knowing he made the world a much better place while he was here, and that his influence will carry on.

Condolence: My condolences to "Doc's" family. "Doc" is how I will always remember this fine man. I served with him in Kamiseya, Japan. I have some wonderful memories, as I'm sure you do. I will never forget my Shipmate. R.I.P. Dear Friend.
