Life Story for DeDee M. Niemela

DeDee M. Niemela
DeDee Marie Niemela, a resident of Portland, Oregon, died peacefully in her home at the age of 65 on September 17, 2018, surrounded by her family and friends after battling gallbladder cancer.

DeDee was born on September 20th, 1952 in Seattle, Washington and was the baby of the family, having two older brothers. Her family moved to Dallas, Oregon where she graduated from Dallas High School and went on to get a business degree at Merritt Davis School of Commerce.

She had three children; Erik, Duane and Ariel. She was very close to them as well as her parents. As a family, they enjoyed doing fun activities together like swimming, hiking, boating, traveling, or just playing board games. She especially loved any activities that involved water.

DeDee was an outgoing person who had lots of friends, though she cherished her private time, and was fiercely independent. She drew people to her by her beauty and fun personality…laughing and making people laugh with her great sense of humor and her warm personality was typical. In her youth, she was on the “Dance Line” and a cheerleader who rose to be the “Queen” varsity cheerleader her senior year. She was the popular girl that got along with everyone.
Elderly people had a special place in DeDee’s heart. In her thirties, she volunteered as a candy striper at St. Vincent’s hospital where she cheered and cared for people for several years.

With her keen eye for detail, she worked very hard and strived for perfection. Medford State Bank was her first job, which led to Medford Corporation, where her father was also employed. In 1983, she moved to Portland where she worked for INTEL and then Synopsys until she retired in 2017.

DeDee is survived by her three children; her two brothers, Niels and Scott; and aunts and uncles in Portland, Los Angeles, and Denmark. She was a very special person who was deeply loved and will be dearly missed.

A joyful celebration of DeDee’s life will be take place at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, October 6, 2018 at Calvin Presbyterian Church (10445 SW Canterbury Lane, Tigard, Oregon 97224). She was laid to rest with a private ceremony at Crescent Grove Cemetery.
