Life Story for David Warrenka

David Warrenka
On May 20, 2017, the longtime Hood River resident, David Warrenka went home to heaven to be with Jesus Christ.

David was born on March 1, 1933. His family moved their float house from Westport OR to Hood River in 1943. His family lived in the float house on the Columbia River at Hood River until 1959.

After graduating from Hood River Valley High School in 1952, he graduated from OTI in Klamath Falls studying diesel mechanics. He then joined the Army serving in Alaska until 1956.

Returning to Hood River he went to work as a log scaler for Columbia River Log Scale Bureau and later SD&S.
In 1963, he married Marian Palmer form Portland OR. David and Marian celebrated 53 wonderful years of marriage. Dave and Marian have two daughters, Susanna and Laura.

David spent his working careers at the City of Hood River Water Department and retired in 1998 from Western Power Products. Dave and Marian celebrated retirement with a two-month trip traveling across America.
Dave had a very full life. He served in leadership as an elder at the Hood River Alliance and Faith Bible Churches. Together they served with the American Sunday School Union at Underwood, WA, and spent decades teaching children in AWANA clubs. Besides serving God, David loved the outdoors. He took his family whitewater rafting, camping, fishing, crabbing, hiking, caving, gardening, and waterskiing. After doing all these activities with his daughters he also shared all these fun experiences with his grandchildren. He even climbed Mt. Hood at age 50, and celebrated his 70th birthday by going on a zipline into the lake at Washington Family Camp. David and Marian lived on Wasco St. for 52 years. Dave was a handyman, always building or fixing a project.

David loved being “Papa” to six grandchildren. He played with them, went to all their events, and took them on many adventures. His grandchildren range in age from 22 to 15, and all deeply love him.

He was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Martha Warrenka, his brothers Jim and George, and granddaughter Adelle.

David is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marian Warrenka, daughter Susanna (Warrenka) and Geoffrey Arnold of Portland, OR and Laura (Warrenka) and Ron Darland of Vancouver, WA, and grandchildren Austin Arnold, Janelle Arnold, Gabe Darland, Meleah Darland, and Hillary Darland.

The family would like to express their gratitude to all the friends and loved ones who have given their help, support and prayers over the years. David was a wonderful man, devoted husband, and loving father and grandfather. He will be dearly missed.

A celebration of David’s life will be held on June 23rd at 3pm at Faith Bible Church 1889 Belmont Dr. Hood River. If you would like to make a memorial donation, please give in memory of David to Faith Bible Church.
