Obituary

Cruz Garcia-Pimental, passed away surrounded by family on January 3, 2019 at his home in Hood River, Oregon. Cruz was born on May 3, 1961 and was 57 years of age at the time of his passing.

Cruz was born to Jesus and Maria Garcia on May 3, 1961. He was the first born of 8 children. In search of a better life, Cruz immigrated to the U.S. in 1977 at the age of 16.

Through the years, he lived in Fresno, California, Yakima, Washington, Mosier, Oregon, and Hood River, Oregon, where he eventually settled down. Cruz explained that he chose to remain in Hood River because of its mountainous landscape, which paralleled that of his hometown in Michoacán, Mexico.

While on vacation in 1989, Cruz reconnected with a childhood friend, Reyna Garcia. They fell in love and married shortly thereafter. She later followed him back to Oregon, where they started a family. The couple had three sons; Miguel, Alberto, and Jesus. Cruz was equally proud of all three of his children.

He always found pride in his work. Cruz worked in a variety of industries including agriculture/farming, manufacturing, and retail. He particularly enjoyed working with livestock. He was a hard worker and he passed on this trait to his children.
In his free time, Cruz enjoyed spending quality time with his family and friends, talking about fond distant memories, and working outside.

He is described by those closest to him as Godly, conservative, hardworking, motivated, and thoughtful. Throughout his life, Cruz strived to help his family and friends. He often invited them to live with him during difficult times.

Cruz passed on January 3, 2019 at his home, surrounded by his three sons, his wife, and one of his brothers. As a husband, father, son, brother, cousin, and uncle, Cruz Garcia will be missed by many. Remembering his life, though painful, will be a reminder to carry on his legacy of a life well lived.

A viewing will be held from 5:00 P.M to 8:00 P.M., Friday, January 11, 2019 at Anderson’s Tribute Center and before his Funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, January 12, 2019 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church (1501 Belmont Ave, Hood River, OR, 97031). Graveside rites will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery (1225 Tucker Road, Hood River, Oregon, 97031).
