meeting my future mother in law

I first met Carol in 1973 when I was 18 years old. I'd just graduated from high school and I had intentions of dating her daughter Sue. And Sue had intentions to date me but Carol & Clyde had a rule, like most parents, that they had to meet you first before you could date their daughter. The next three times I was scheduled to meet the parents, they were at one of Terry & Norman's baseball games so they said go ahead and go out and we'll meet him next time. I believe looking back on this that Sue was picking the meeting dates based on when her brothers had games in order to delay the approval process. She thought I was going to be a hard sell to her folks and she maybe wanted to go out a few times and make sure I was someone she wanted to argue for. The meeting finally occurred and the first thing that you noticed about Carol is that family meant everything to her. She was a huge defender of her family. She was also big on friends and God but family is what you noticed first. Even when she made an exception to that approval process to meet you before you could date her daughter, it was because of other family. You will be missed Carol. Love Darold (your favorite son in law - hint; Carol only has one daughter)
