Obituary for Betty Douglas

Betty Douglas
Elizabeth “Betty” Douglas went to be with the Lord on Wednesday November 10, 2010. Betty was born July 11, 1919 in Portland, Oregon to Andrew and Mata Kraus, the first of their three children. She attended Washington High School in Portland and graduated from Redlands High School in Redlands, California. Betty met her husband Fay Brainard in Coos Bay, Oregon. They were married in April 1941 and moved to Portland where they raised their two children and lived until Fay’s death in 1973. In 1974, Betty moved to the Hood River Valley with her son and daughter-in-law. There, in 1977, she met and married Lynn Douglas. Following Lynn’s death in 1991, Betty continued to make her home in Hood River and attend Hood River Baptist Church.

Betty was a homemaker and was well known to family and friends for her passionate love of flowers and gardening. She was also passionate in her friendships- once she was on your side, she was there to stay; she would take your side against any person or circumstance that came against you. She was equally passionate in her love for her family. What a blessing it has been to have her in our lives!

In addition to her husbands, Betty was preceded in death by her brother George. She is survived by her children, Doug Brainard and Nancy (Ken) Metcalf; her sister Jean McGraw and sister-in-law Lillian Kraus; grandchildren Angela Hill, Lena Cook (Charles), Jeff Quinn (Cayenne), and Andy Quinn (Janine), Dan Metcalf,; great grandchildren Brandon Hill, Christopher and Isabel Cook and Isla Quinn; nieces and nephews George McCraw, Marianne McCraw , Marty Wheaton, Laura Kraus, John Brainard and Judy Walker, along with many much loved friends.

Special thanks for the knowledgable and compassionate care provided Bob Fiske, PA-C, beloved friend Terri Radliff, Liz Heacock, and the wonderful team of people from Hospice of the Gorge, most especially Bob Reuter. There are not enough words to tell you all you have meant to Betty and her family.

Services for Betty will be 10:00 am, Saturday, November 20, 2010 at Anderson Tribute Center, followed by a graveside service at 3:00 p.m. at Sunset Hills of Portland, Oregon.

Betty’s family requests that donations be made to Hospice of the Gorge.
