Obituary for Betty Jeanette Barnett

Betty Jeanette Barnett
Betty Jeanette Barnett, died peacefully at home on May 14th, 2012 after a long battle with multiple cancers. She passed away at her home in Hood River with family by her side.

She was born May 24, 1940 to Chester and Bertha Oakes in Monroe Oregon. Betty attended Monroe Union High School, graduating in 1958. She moved to Hawthorne, Nevada soon after graduation to work for her Aunt Mary who ran a child care nursery. There she met William Barnett who was stationed at NAD Hawthorne. They were married Thanksgiving day in 1958 at the Methodist church in Monroe. They lived in various locations throughout northern California until retiring and moving to Hood River in 1994.

Betty was an avid reader but also had many other interests including gardening, sewing, traveling, and playing penny slot machines at casinos. But above all she was interested in being a mother for her three children and helping others. She was an active member of the Hood River Care Center family council and spent many hours volunteering at the care center.

She is survived by her husband Bill, and her 2 surviving daughters, Cynthia from Hood River and Megan from Portland. Her oldest daughter, Lori, passed away in 2009. She has 3 grandsons, all who live in central California, Bill Hayward and Jeremy Morales in Fresno and Joseph Hayward in Visalia. She is also survived by a sister Janice from Monroe, Oregon and 3 brothers, Don of Monroe Oregon, Sidney of Battleground, Washington, and Steven of Las Vegas, Nevada.

No funeral will be held but a celebration of life will be held later. The family suggests remembrances be sent in memory of Betty to Heart of Hospice, 205 Wasco Loop Suite 202, Hood River Oregon, 97031.
