Tribute to Dennis Smith lifelong resident of Hood River, Oregon. Dennis and I started school together in first grade back in the early fifties and we have been best friends ever since. I left Hood River in 1971 to move to Australia but we always kept in touch. We spent hours talking to each other on Skype. I will always treasure the times we spent together growing up, some of it getting into mischief. Dennis was always fun to be around as there was never a dull moment. We spent a great deal of time at the Spud Nut Shop on the Heights and Barkley’s Pharmacy was another favorite spot where we’d go after school to have a Coke or milk shake. During summer vacation we would always be doing something together. Classmates, Herby Good, Mike Mallory, Johnny Wheeler and Mike Funk would join us for many fun-filled days fishing on Hood River or Indian Creek. We were in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts together where great times were had by all. I have been back to Hood River a number of times since moving to Australia and I always spent time with Dennis. We would talk about the great times we had together. This was always a highlight of my trip. Dennis R.I.P. dear friend, you will always be remembered. I was honored to call you my mate and will miss you terribly. Don Mays
