Condolences

Condolence From: Julianne Lessner-Beliel
Condolence: Harry was such an inspiration to me his friendship to my Uncle Shig, as well as my mom Molly Imai-Lessner was sincere, generous and thoughtful I remember him as the Ice-Cream man for all the JACL picnics not really sure why but he always seemed to be the one monitoring how many ice-cream bars us kids were trying to eat. He will be missed.

Condolence From: David and Lori White
Condolence: Shirley and the Inukai family,

I was saddened to read in the newspaper today of the passing of Harry. Dave and I have many fond memories of Harry collecting items for resale, working out in the orchard, selling tofu, spending time with his dog, and driving around town. When Pine Grove had their annual auction, you knew where to find Harry. He loved to find good bargains. It was always fun to have Harry's sisters come visit the old homestead. We were fortunate to purchase the Tule Lake Directory from Harry when we all lived on the same property. Dave and I were excited to see that the Smithsonian Institute had it in their archives when we visited several years ago. We offer our sincerest condolences to your family during this time. Harry will be surely missed and was loved by all. He was a very special man.

Love,
David and Lori

Condolence From: Ken Tamura and family
Condolence: Condolence's to the entire Inukai family. Harry was a special man that was known by many and loved by all who knew him. I remember going over to visit Harry when I was still in grade school way back in the 60's with my Dad. It seemed that Harry's was the only place in Hood River where you could get a good deal on tires and wheels. It was always fun to go there because I would always see some neat new electronic gadget that Harry had discovered on one of his weekly trips to Portland. As I got older I found out that Harry's was the best place to order items from my "wish list". Harry got me my first ten speed bike, my first eight track tape player and later my first cassette deck, my first stereo, my first set of custom wheels and raised white letter tires and the list goes on and on. One of the things that always amazed me about Harry's "treasure chest" of items was that he had a LOT of stuff stacked everywhere and no matter what we were asking for......Harry could always locate that item somewhere within the confines of his garage area. So many fun memories at his place on Dee Flat. Later in life, his friendly visits to my parents were always welcome and he always had some tofu to drop off to them. As I think back on all the memories I have of Harry, they bring a smile to my face as he always brought smiles and warm feelings to all those many friendships he nurtured over these many years. He will be missed, but not forgotten. He was truly, one of a kind.

Condolence From: Leila Mattox
Condolence: Please accept my very sincere sympathies for your family's loss.
Harry was a friend to all. I met him in the early 80's. He always had an interesting story to tell, or information to share. He educated me (more than any other source) regarding the interrment of the Japanese people during WW2. A few years ago, I stopped at a sale at Harry's, and found a set of dishes that matched my own. I was so happy with my 'find', and Harry was pretty tickled to be able to provide them for me. In recent years, we'd bump into each other at the Upper Valley Lion's Breakfasts. He never forgot me, and I will never forget him. He was a good guy.
