Obituary for Mark Hasegawa
Mark Hasegawa, 89, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2017 with family by his side.
Mark was born December 10, 1927 to Kenichi and Masue (Namba) Hasegawa. He grew up in the Hood River valley, attending school at Oak Grove grade school. Early 1942 Mark and his family went to internment camp in Pinedale, CA and Minidoka, ID returning back to the Hood River area in 1945, graduating from Hood River High School in 1947.
For a few years after graduating from high school, Mark worked on the family farm. Mark enlisted in the Army serving in the Korean War from 1950-52. By the early 1960’s he purchased land on Binns Hill Drive to start his family orchard and call home.
He married Yuri L. Kawachi on May 6, 1956 at the Centenary Wilbur Methodist Church in Portland. Together they raised three children. Mark enjoyed watching the fruits of his labor in his orchard, countless trips to Reno and Toppenish, WA with his good friends, frequent trips to the Oregon coast to clam dig when his kids were younger but most of all he loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.
Mark is survived by his wife Yuri; three children Rhonda (Jeff) Kaneshige of Gladstone, OR; Jeff (Jackie) Hasegawa of Hood River, OR; and Janet (Tom) Mellman of Burlingame, CA.; three grandchildren Courtney Hasegawa, Michael Hasegawa and Gavin Mellman; sister Dorothy Kawachi of Beaverton, OR; brother James (Ella) Hasegawa of Hood River; sister-in-law Anita Hasegawa of Hood River; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, older brother Toru and nephew Bob Kramer

A viewing will be held 6pm - 8pm Friday, February 24, 2017; a second viewing will be held 9:30am – 10:45am Saturday, February 25, 2017 and a service will follow at 11am at Anderson's Tribute Center.
