I will always remember Uncle Vernon's lively sense of humor, his generosity to his family, community, and the volunteer fire department, his hard work, and strength of character. He and Aunt Carol patiently endured the annual summer descent of the Cunningham cousins (Virginia's kids) upon their already large family, as he worked long hours at his Pine Grove Texaco station.

Uncle Vernon was a second father to my brothers and I. I wonder if he knew what he and his family meant to us. I offer my enduring gratitude to him, Aunt Carol, and all of my Picking cousins. May you find comfort in memories of your wonderful dad.
