Consistency with bacon

I met Ed and Patti at the Wake and Baked, over breakfast where we met almost every day for quite a while.  It was there that I learned just how consistent Ed could be.  There is a book written about him titled The Heart of a Pastor and throughout the book his utter consistency can be seen.  Well, it didn't change after he retired.  He was utterly consistent about having his bacon, eggs and coffee.  There were a few times when, because of stomach problems or something, that Patti would change the breakfast order.  The 'change' would suddenly appear at the table, a surprise to all of us.  Ed would look at it, then look up at either Jessica or Angel who had served him and say, somewhat petulantly, "Where's my bacon?"   We would all glance around at each other as Ed continued to stare at his servor.  We were like little kids looking for someone else to blame.  None of us were going to say "It wasn't me."  And then, like a light going on two of us said "Patti did it."  We sat there somewhat anxiously and sheepishly looking at Patti who was now the focus of those brilliant blue eyes.  "Where's my bacon?"  He was a very focused man, something also noted in the book about him.  "Now Ed.... and she would calmly explain to him why he couldn't have the bacon that day.  Then calmly she would set the tone for the table's conversation to continue.   Their love for each other and their humor was evident every day.   My prayers are said for both of them.
