Georgiana Sheirbon, 91, died August 25, 2015 while residing at The Springs at Mill Creek an assisted living facility in The Dalles, Oregon.
Georgiana was born December 28, 1923 in Pine Grove, Oregon to Earl A. and Mary E. (Whitecotton) Moore. She was the eldest of Earl and Mary’s four children. She was joined in the family by brothers Alan and Lee and sister Louise. She attended the Pine Grove School; along with short stints in schools serving Usk, Washington and Portland, Oregon; graduating from Hood River High School in 1942. While growing up she was active in 4-H programs and the Pine Grove Methodist Church.
Georgiana attended Oregon State College (now Oregon State University) where she majored in foods and nutrition and lived at The Pines, a cooperative affiliated with the 4-H extension program. She left college 22 hours short of graduation to marry Leonard Sheirbon upon his return from North Africa following the Allied victory in Europe during World War II. The were married October 20, 1946 at The Pine Grove Methodist Church, initiall living in San Diego, California where Leonard was stationed. Outside of the time Georgiana spent in Corvallis during times she or Leonard attended college, the time they spent in San Diego while Leonard finished his service in the Navy and the last two years she lived at The Springs at Mill Creek in The Dalles. She was a life long Hood River resident.
Georgiana worked picking and packing fruit as a teenager, she worked part time judging exhibits at county fairs early in her adult life and was a stay at home mother until after her last child was born when she went to work for Hood River Memorial Hospital as their foodservice supervisor, as position she held for 26 years.
Georgiana was a member of the HoodRiver Valley Christian Church for 60 years and the Lyon’s Club. The enjoyed cooking and playing breidge. She was a founding member of a bridge club that began in the early 1950’s that she played with until she was no longer physically able to do so.
Georgiana is survived by her four sons William “Bill” (wife Debby) (The Dalles, OR), David (Enterprise, OR), Doug (Hermiston, OR) and Michael “Scot” (Irrigon, OR); grandchildren Brent Sheirbon (Panama City, Panama), Dawn Sheirbon (The Dalles, OR), Ashley Myers (Kennewick, WA) and Leonard E. Sheirbon (Hermiston, OR); brothers Alan Moore (Hood River, OR) and Lee Moore (wife Nona) (Hood River , OR) and sister Louise Rickman (husband Eldon) (Wenatchee, WA), four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Mary Moore; her husband, Leonard G. Sheirbon; and daughter in law Janet Sheirbon.
A service to honor Georgiana’s life and mourn her passing is planned for 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 4th, 2015 at Valley Christian Church (975 Indian Creek Rd, Hood River, OR 97031) with a reception to follow then graveside rites at Pine Grove Cemetery.
