The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Ellen Dittebrandt can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Condolence: Dear Ellen, I just discovered your art and instantly fell in love with it. You capture the things I love. In researching you I have found this obituary. This saddens me. Rest in peace. I'm sure you will...I can sense your beautiful soul through your photograph and your art.

Condolence: I first met Ellen as Allen Dittebrandt, pastel artist extraordinaire in Bend, Oregon. As an amateur pastel artist I was amazed at his gift, there was nothing "pastel" about his work, more vibrant and intense than any pastels I had ever seen before or since. I collected Dittebrandts while living in Bend then after a financial decline had to sell all but kept the very first Dittebrandt I bought and still treasure. I learned of Allen's change to Ellen during that time and then later of her death. I am so sorry for your great loss, she sounded like she was not only an amazing artist but an amazing person all around as well. I have a Pinterest board of her art that I collected online, the digital images almost as vibrant as the real thing. She is still very much alive and living for me through her art. Peace and love. Condolence: We did not know Ellen very well although she lived across the street. She came over to introduce herself when she bought the property and to say hello to us and our dogs.We waved a lot and watched her dogs frolick around the neighborhood. From what we have heard and read about her, I wish we had known her better. We will miss seeing your smiling face and hope you are at peace. Cheryl

Condolence: Dear Ellen
You began that bike ride in joy. May you now have arrived in a place such as the ones you excitedly painted;a place of everlasting beauty, a place where every sense is rejuvenated and every spirit renewed.

A small but divine accident resulted in putting me in touch with you as a Facebook friend, where I watched many of your beautiful paintings take shape , shared some of the happiness you experienced in hiking long and far, running impossible distances, being part of a loving group of fellow athletes.
Live in Beauty dear Ellen, for you have stopped your life constantly to create the visions of Nature you left behind to heal and inspire us.
Bless you and Thank you! ellen coffin

Condolence: I am an artist who, after meeting Ellen and watching her paint, found inspiration in my own path. She saw the natural world with incisive clarity. She had brilliant use of color and brushstroke filled with spiritual meaning. Her paintings of the Columbia River Gorge are masterpieces for which she will forever be recognized. As much as she was an internationally recognized painter, she was also a kind and giving member of the Mosier community. It was an honor to know such a fine human being. Her vision and purity of heart were truly an inspiration and she will be dearly missed.

Condolence: I have many a good memory of Ellen from our years together in the past, when we were both training in Taekwon-do. I have long loved and admired her artwork and her unbridled passion for living life to the fullest. She touched so many people's lives and we are all richer for having known her. She will truly be missed.

My most heartfelt condolence for Judith and for Ellen's many friends. I only hope she knew how much she meant to so many.

Condolence: I love you Ellen! Your spirit will live forever...you embodied what being an active member of society is all about. Your sense of humor, personal style & general mojo was developed at the highest of levels. You never left a single second un-lived. We were lucky to have you...such a role model! Heaven takes on a whole new meaning now that you are there...

Condolence: I did not know Ellen personally, but in a small town one gets to "know everyone" over the years in some way or another. I knew her magnificent work, which I would stand entranced in front of and admire whenever I would be near it. Her passion and strength and daring came through with awe inspiring boldness. I adored how she saw the world, as a vivid place that she thrilled to share with others. And, from other people who also mourn her passing, I am learning that equally sweet and caring side that was also Ellen. What an amazing person she was !! The brightness of the world has dimmed a little . I am deeply sorry .
