L. Florence Chandler passed away on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at the Parkhurst Place of Hood River, Oregon. Florence was born on July 9, 1924 and was 89 years of age at her passing.

Florence was born in Haynes, North Dakota to Herman and Mable VanRas. She moved with her family when she was 13 to Hood River. She graduated from Hood River High School in 1942.

Florence married Thomas Chandler in Vancouver, Washington in 1945 and they were blessed with two children. Tom worked for Pacific Power so the family moved often. They called many places home and Florence made life song friendships wherever they lived.

She had many jobs in her life including; working in the packing houses, restaurants and of course being an active homemaker. One of her favorite jobs was working in the liquor store… she never drank but she knew what everyone else in Hood River drank  . At her retirement she was working for Key Bank.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents; Herman and Mable VanRas; husband, Thomas Chandler; sister, Meva Sandercock; brother, John VanRas; grandson, Jerry Phelps and son-in-law, Bill Locke.

She is survived and will be dearly missed by her daughters, Sandra Locke of Husum, Washington and Vonnie Carlson and husband, John of Herrick, Illinois; son, Donald Chandler and his wife, Janice of Hood River, Oregon; grandchildren and great grandchildren plus many nieces and nephews.

A service to mourn Florence’s passing and celebrate her life is planned for 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 23, 2014 at the Hood River Valley Christian Church (975 Indian Creek Road).

Memorials are encouraged to be made in Florence’s name to Hospice of the Gorge.
