Willard R. Flynn, 92, of Hood River, Oregon passed away on September 3, 2013 at the Hood River Care Center. Willard was born March 3, 1921 and was 92 years of age at the time of his passing and now joins his wife Frances who passed away on March 30, 2013.

Willard was born in Sheridan, Oregon to Almond “Am” and Anna (Gottwaldt) Flynn. He was raised in Sheridan and attended Sheridan High School.

He joined the Merchant Marines, then joining the Army in 1942 and was discharged in 1946. Upon his return to Sheridan, he met and later married Frances Papstein on December 22, 1948. He worked for 29 years for the telephone system in Sheridan, Redmond and finally Hood River.

He joined the Sheridan Masonic Lodge in 1946 and the Sheridan Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star in 1948. He is a past patron of the Sheridan Chapter. He joined the Elks Lodge in McMinnville in 1952.

Over the years, Willard enjoyed camping, water-skiing, bowling, golfing, fishing, and trap shooting. He also loved watching Trailblazer basketball games, frequently expressing frustration that games were “blacked out” in Hood River.

He is survived by his brother-in-law, Cordell “Bud” Papstein. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances, who passed away in March of this year. Many laughs and good times with Willard will be fondly remembered by his family and dear friends.

Arrangements are under the direction of Anderson's Tribute Center (Funerals • Receptions • Cremations) 1401 Belmont Avenue, Hood River, Oregon 97031. Interment at Willamette National Cemetery of Portland, Oregon will take place at a later date.
