Obituary for Isobel Dyer Willis

Isobel Dyer  Willis
Isobel Dyer Willis passed away January 6, 2013 at Columbia Basin Care Center of The Dalles. She was born July 15, 1923 in Carnwath, Scotland to John and Isabelle (Pursell) Dyer.

Isobel moved with her family to England in her teens where she spent her high school years in Corby, Northamptonshire, England. She met Jim Willis and they married in 1946 in England.

They emmigrated to the US in 1950 where she worked as a secretary for National Gypsum. They lived in the Northeast for a few years before settling in Abington, Pennsylvania where she taught nursery school. She retired to Clearwater Florida in 1981. She worked as a lay minister for Trinity Presbyterian church for 11 years. She called on seniors who were homebound and helped them with everyday living as well as major events in their lives.

She moved to Santa Cruz, California in 2000 to be near her son and to help look after her Granddaughter Hannah. (her favorite job ever). In 2005 She moved to Hood River to be near her daughter and quickly made friends living in Down Manor.

She enjoyed tennis, knitting, bridge, socializing, loved her cup of tea, chocolate and children (especially her granddaughter). Isobel had a devout faith and loved to sing. She wrote a newsletter for the church in Clearwater called “Heart to Heart” and was a member of the Daughters of the British Empire in Philadelphia.

She spent the last years of her life living in Columbia Basin Care facility in The Dalles where the caring staff loved and treated her like their own family.

Her family shared… “what I will miss most… her Sparkly smile, her laugh, sense of humor and compassion for others.

Isobel is survived by; son Greg, wife Jacky and granddaughter Hannah; daughter Lisa, husband Dave; brother Frank, wife Jean still living in Corby, Northants, England; Niece Judy living in Michigan and her extended family including the wonderful staff at Columbia Basin Care Facility in the Dalles, who always treated her with love, kindness and respect.

Services to celebrate Isobel’s life and mourn her passing are planned for 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 11th at Hood River Valley Christian Church (975 Indian Creek Road, Hood River, OR 97031).

Memorials are encouraged to the Hood River Valley Christian Church Children wonder program.
