I was a classmate of Mike Shibahara at Portland State in Physics.  I was fresh out of high school, and I do remember him as one of several military vets in our class.  He  was optimistic and humorous.  I do remember his tales of skipping high school occasionally to drive with friends to Portland downtown to attend a movie matinee.  Those PSC/PSU Physics and Math courses were challenging, especially for the students who had been away from academics for a few years.
