Sylvia Louise Holwegner passed away April 12th, 2021 at her home in The Dalles, Oregon surrounded by family. Sylvia was born on June 5, 1935 and was 85 years of age at the time of her passing.
Sylvia was born in Toppenish, Washington to George W. and Louise Nell (Stillwell) Peterson. She grew up in Toppenish and in her youth enjoyed ice skating with her friends, riding horses and growing flowers. Sylvia was the leader of the drill team and sang in the glee club during high school.
On January 23, 1954 she married Ottis D. Holwegner in Toppenish, Washington. To their union - they had four children; Dennis, David & Jan and an infant child, Michael who died at birth The family had a small farm in Carson, Washington where they raised animals. Their favorite times were camping and fishing on Walupt Lake with family and friends – this was always a highlight of their year.
She wore a number of hats through the years; a mother, dental hygienist, taught 4-H, showed sheep around the United States and was one of only two breeders to be selected to send sheep to Australia in fifty years. Sylvia showed Premier Suffolk Sheep at Columbia, Missouri, Louisville, Kentucky, Reno, Nevada and to Portland, Oregon … she was very proud of this accomplishment.
Sylvia is survived and will be dearly missed by; her husband, Ottis Holwegner of The Dalles, Oregon; three children, Dennis (& Paula) Holwegner of Stevenson, Washington, David Holwegner of Bingen, Washington & Jan Holwegner of The Dalles, Oregon; three grandchildren, Suzanne, Nicholas and Erin; and brother, Phillip Peterson.
A memorial service is planned for 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 1st, 2021 at Carson Bible Church ( 1121 Wind River Hwy, Carson, Washington 98610 ).
