Obituary for Shirley E. Murphey

Shirley Elizabeth Murphey “Nana” passed away Wednesday, August 9th, 2023 at her home in The Dalles, Oregon.  Shirley was born June 6th, 1948 was 75 years of age at the time of passing.  



Shirley was born in Bryson City, North Carolina to Joe A. and Elsie (Floyd) Shuler.  On August 6th, 1995 Shirley married Abijah Murphey.  She enjoyed putting puzzles together with family and working on crossword puzzles with family members too.  She was a deeply religious woman who loved her LORD wholeheartedly.  Her deep love was freely given to all who came to know her.  To have gotten to know Shirley was to have felt loved.



Shirley is survived and will be dearly missed by; her husband, Abijah Murphey; children, Kelly and Amy Jeffers, Diane and Michael McCann, Ida and Kevin Arbo and Tammy and Lance Dibble; and Abijah’s children Darrin and Julie Murphey, Scott and Robin Murphey, Kerri and Michael Rasmussen, Sheri and Darin Borter; seventeen grandchildren; four great grandchildren; other family,   Carolyn, Mary, John, Dorothy, Barbara, Jim, Brenda, Brother-in-law Jack Kaufman, Brother in law Steve Baska, Sister-in-law Tammy Mason and many nieces and nephews; many many friends who loved her very much; and her chihuahua, Bailey and her 6 chickens she loved to take care of.



She was preceded in death by her mother, father, grandparents, brother-in-law Tony Horak and her great niece Angela M Bynum, and her best friend Carolene.



Services for Shirley are as follows; a graveside committal service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 16th, 2023 at Mountain View Memorial Cemetery (1235 Tucker Road, Hood River, Oregon).  A time of continued sharing and reception will follow at Covenant Christian Church (2630 E 18th St, The Dalles, OR 97058).



A special thanks to Providence Hospice for the consistent and kind support.  



In the days prior to Shirley’s death, she summed up her life as: She Loved. Shirley did love, she loved her family, she loved friends, she loved people, and she loved loving people. She had a gentle spirit, sweet smile, and a warm hug.
