Obituary for Robert "Bob" Charles Miller

Robert “Bob” Charles Miller was a caring husband, father, grandfather and brother. He left this world to be with his wife Connie and his heavenly Father on August 15, 2022, at the age of 85 years old.

Bob was born in Volga, Iowa and grew up in Elkader, Iowa on a small dairy farm with four brothers and sisters. He attended Elkader High School where he played football, basketball and participated in track. After graduating high school, Bob joined the Air Force and spent time serving in Germany. After being honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1963, Bob decided to leave the Midwest and moved to California where he first worked as an electronics technician on projects for the U.S. Defense Department. It was at an apartment pool party where he met his future wife, Connie, who was an elementary teacher and convinced him to go back to school and become a teacher. Bob went on to earn his bachelor’s degree and two masters degrees and eventually teaching high school electronics and math at Cupertino High School in California and Sam Barlow High School in Gresham, Oregon. Bob and Connie were married in 1966 and together they had two daughters Tacia “Tacie” and Emilie. They raised their young family in the Bay Area both working as teachers and ultimately settling in Tualatin, Oregon to build their dream home with property.

Bob loved to help his neighbors in Tualatin and usually could be found mowing one of their fields with his John Deere tractor or “zero turn” riding lawn mower. He was known to have a special talent for trapping moles and gophers and even kept a spreadsheet including locations, tallies and rate/mole. Bob also loved to work with Connie in their garden and small pinot noir vineyard; making wine with family and neighbors. Together with Connie, they helped plant and prune several other pinot noir vineyards in the neighborhood. He also enjoyed working on the latest projects for his family particularly those that included pouring cement such as building and underground wine cellar, building a large deck and extending a barn. Bob’s grandson, Finley “Finney” was born in October 2012 and provided him great joy - taking him on tractor rides, teaching and working on building projects with him and eventually watching him play and progress at soccer.

Bob is survived by his daughter Tacia “Tacie” Miller (Adrian) of Hood River, Oregon, daughter Emilie Miller (Kevin) of Mosier, Oregon, grandson Finley Hawkins of Hood River, Oregon, and many grateful moles and gophers. He is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Connie; and parents Ray and Florence Miller, brothers Harold and Jack; sisters Rosemary and Margare.
